HELLO ARKANSAS NICA!!!
We have been hard at work getting ready for the fall season all spring and early summer. After a quick vacation, the realization that the season is already here has us excited to get back to racing and see you all out on the trails. We recently finished our “Try it Out” Sessions in Clarksville and Dequeen Arkansas and have held a few “On The Bike” Skills sessions as well. As many of you know, the demand for bikes is at an all time high which has created challenges while we worked to increase our Loaner Bike Fleet. We have successfully gotten all those bikes prepared and distributed out to those who needed them.
This season is looking more like a “normal” season! What’s New for 2021 is the AR/MO Adventure Jamboree, A GRIT Race Party and the Time Trial Prelude which will seed riders for our traditional race series for this season. While we plan on hosting our events as normal, we acknowledge that the current COVID situation in our region is worse than it has been in a while. We will continue to monitor the situation. Our recommendation continues to be that we social distance whenever possible and wear masks when that is not possible especially when a person is not vaccinated.
We hope you find the info below helpful and enjoy the read!
Ride safe and happy,
Kyla, Terry, and the Arkansas NICA Team.
It’s Time To Register!
It’s time to get registered for our fall events! All registration for events for student athletes is done in the our Pit Zone registration system.
July 31 is a big deadline for two things:
- If you register for the four races in the series, there is a $50 discount that will be applied to your cart.
- If you want a personalized name plate for the season, you must register for at least one race by July 31.
In addition, coaches will be in the process the next couple weeks of making sure the middle school student athletes are in the right categories. High school petitions should be completed by July 31 if a student athlete wants the personalized name plate in their correct category.
July 31 Teen Trail Corps Day
We are joining several other leagues across the country to have a Teen Trail Corps (TTC) Day. You can find more information on the TTC program on our website.
Giving back to our communities and developing character through leadership and service is so important to us that our race season awards include bonus points for individuals for service hours and half of our team award is based on the service hours for the whole team. For specifics, you can visit the Arkansas Appendix in the NICA Handbook. Students have two choices for how to earn the bonus points:
- Complete 10 bike-related SERVE hours. This can be done through your team or through other organizations, such as OORC, CATA, BikeNWA, FAST, etc.
- Complete NICA’s Service Leadership Development Program, Teen Trail Corps. Student athletes will work toward earning 4 badges to complete their Teen Trail Corps Captain Badge.
Arkansas NICA has a goal of completing over 6,000 service hours in 2021.
Our Madison County Composite Team is hosting a trail cleanup day on July 31 at 9:00 am at Huntsville Middle School. Join them or get your own team together to go out and take care of some of your local trail!
Arkansas-Missouri Adventure Jamboree
The Arkansas-Missouri Adventure Jamboree is a first year event for our league and the first ever to combine with another league. It is focused on team building and fun – you’ll get to know your friends better, and make new friends from across the region.
For more information about it, visit our website. To register, sign in to the pit zone.
We need volunteers at the Jamboree! Sign up HERE!
GRIT Race Party!
We are having our first-ever all girls race party on Saturday, August 21 from 9 am to 2 pm. This local dirt event will be focused on fun and an intro to racing in a non-intimidating environment. It will include a preride of the course, a 30 minute race (how many laps can you complete in 30 min?), and games and fun. Make sure you bring a change of clothes – some of the games may include getting wet!
For more information about the event, visit our website. to register sign in to the pit zone.
